Every winter, a few white-throated dippers migrate to Denmark from northern Scandinavia. Wearing my waders, I step into a small stream and wait patiently for the dipper to come close.

On one occasion, I had a particularly special experience while sitting in the water photographing a dipper foraging about 10 metres in front of me. Suddenly, it decided to take off and flew straight toward me, passing within a metre of my face before landing another 20 metres further up the stream. Fortunately, I managed to capture a few reasonably sharp images, even though the shutter speed was only 1/800 of a second.
