A cold morning on Lake Kerkini in Northern Greece, I spotted a Dalmatian pelican approaching in the distance as we were sailing back to the harbour in our large wooden boat. The soft morning light casted a pastel-like hue over the scene, with the mountains in the background and the water surface completely still. I was ready and focused on getting the composition just right when the pelican passed only five meters from our boat. Fortunately, I had a wide-angle lens mounted on the camera.
